Reproductive Medicine

Infertility is a problem that can affect any couple. It is positive to note however that there are a number of technologies in assisted reproduction that can help couples overcome this common issue. Both men and women may be affected by infertility, and in many couples there are male and female factors that may stand in the way of conception. ReproMed has helped hundreds of Toronto couples and those from around the world build their families since 1990, and we are committed to offering our patients the most advanced treatments available for modern infertility care.

Reasons to Consider Reproductive Medicine
If you have been trying to conceive for one year without success, you might schedule a consultation at ReproMed to explore possible causes for infertility. Couples over the age of 35 may consider consulting one of our physicians after six months of attempting to conceive. Multiple miscarriages, known genetic disorders, and unexplained infertility with no clear underlying factors are also reasons to explore treatments with assisted reproductive therapies.

Assisted Reproductive Therapies
Because there are so many different possible causes of infertility, there are several assisted reproductive therapies that can help to start your family. Here’s a look at some of the treatments that your doctor may discuss with you as you plan your infertility care.

  • IUI – During intrauterine insemination, partner or donor sperm is directly injected into the uterus to help assist with successful fertilization. Progesterone therapy will assist the process and improve the chances of conception.
  • IVF – In-vitro fertilization involves the cultivation of embryos in a laboratory so they may be transferred to the uterus for higher chances of implantation and full-term pregnancy.
  • Embryo Freezing – For couples planning to have children in the future, embryo freezing is a viable option for fertility preservation. Cryopreservation technology can also reduce the cost of repeated IVF cycles by eliminating the need to generate new embryos prior to treatment.
  • ICSI – With ICSI, a microscopic approach will be used to facilitate pregnancy even when only a small quantity of sperm is available. Treatment uses a one to one ratio of sperm to eggs, which means that couples with few sperm or eggs available can optimize the chances of fertilization.

Supplementary Treatments
Infertility treatment with reproductive medicine can put physical and mental stress on patients, so additional therapies may be helpful throughout the course of care. Counseling can help couples manage stress and make more informed decisions in treatment, while acupuncture may improve the chances of success in treatment with a more holistic approach.

ReproMed offers a diverse approach to infertility treatment with donor services available along with supplementary care from Toronto’s leading specialists in acupuncture, counseling, and fertility preservation. You can reach us to schedule a consultation by calling (647) 558-1486.
